Russian Barents Sea

Russian Barents Sea surf travel guide

The Barents Sea hems in the NW coastline of Russia and is very lightly populated apart from the major port city of Murmansk. Swell arrives from any direction with N in it, hitting a jagged, rocky coastline with little in the way of good surfing beaches. East of Murmansk at Teriberka, a couple of rocky bays facing north do get surfed when conditions allow, but you're far more likely to find kitesurfers launching from the sandy beach that lies deep in the Teriberka Bay. There's claims of Gulf Stream water reaching this coast and tempering the icy waters, but best to limit water time here to mid summer and early autumn.
