Yorkshire surf travel guide
Many locals and visiting surfers are now surfing Yorkshire as it rapidly becomes regarded as one of the best locations in England. The geology is favourable for reefbreaks and when a N swell comes down from an Arctic low and meets with an offshore SW airflow the results can be spectacular; points, reefs, beaches and heavy ledges abound. Secret spots still exist, as access is difficult in some areas, but the crowd tension is starting to show at the name spots as more and more visitors head north instead of to the SW.

Visas
Since Brexit, unrestricted travel between the UK and the EU is over. The current system allows for visa free travel for up to 90/180 days a year. Beyond 90 days things get very complicated so check online for the details. US, Canada, OZ, NZ and some others follow the same 90-180 day rules. Most other countries need a visa before arrival. more info here
Getting Around
Coastal roads are reasonably uncongested outside of summer. Scarborough to Runswick Bay takes about an hour and it's about 15 minutes to Cayton Bay.
Accommodation
Scarborough is a great base with waves that break in different wind conditions and swell sizes. Plus it has easy access north or south to the other breaks in Yorkshire. Lots of BnB's some with sea views.
Activities
Hazards & hassles
Rocks, cold water, localism, snow in winter.
Handy Hints
Scarborough has some well-stocked shops and also some surf schools. Booties are essential both for the cold and the many quality reef breaks.
