Espirito Santo surf travel guide
Brazilian surfers have traditionally overlooked the waves in the Holy Spirit State, but that is to ignore its ideal positioning for picking up both winter groundswells from the southern ocean and summer windswells from the reliable onshore trades. The capital Vitória along with Vila Velha and Guarapari are located in the south, where the diversity of waves includes top quality spots breaking over coral reefs, rock slabs and sandy rivermouths.

Visas
Visa free travel for nearly all nationalities for stays of up to 90 days.
Accommodation
South of the capital, there’s good hotel infrastructure, inns, restaurants and many vacation homes for rent. North has less options but less crowds, some who come from the state of Minas Gerais. Moqueca Capixaba is a local seafood delicacy.
Activities
ES is all about the beach from long and empty natural strands to the short, crowded and built-up urban scene of Vila Velha, which parties hard in summer. Brazilian navy personnel may be scoring the offshore islands of Trindade and Martin Vaz. Visit the national parks of Pedra Azul and Caparaó.
Hazards & hassles
No shark attacks recorded in ES. Expect some bad attitude at the reefbreaks and dont leave valuables in cars or on the beach.
Handy Hints
Surfing is growing fast and the state government has invested heavily in coastal city infrastructure and safety. Lots of surf shops in Vila Velha, Jacaraipe and Serra. Capixaba is nickname for ES people.
