The first photo I took that set my heart on fire was snuck behind the ropes image of punk-ska band Less Than Jake. I had faked a credential for the college newspaper to get a chance at a band portrait. Seeing that image come to life under the developer solution solidified who I was supposed to become. Looking back over two decades behind the lens, it's humbling to see how many moments I've had the honor of being present for since that pivotal first roll of black and white film. Published in every magazine I grew up reading and sent around the globe with a camera in hand, every minute of this process has been nothing I thought it would be and likely everything it should have been. I wouldn't change any of it. Seasoned is my favorite self appointed adjective. It comes with a little bit of salt and sarcasm in its tone, something thats just inherent growing up a New Hampshire kid. It represents the roller coaster of a successful career. It seems to explain the technical precision that came driving stories for Surfer Magazine when film budgets were a challenge. It reflects the countless times problem solving the unpredictable for every death defying Red Bull pressure situation. Most importantly its a beautiful description of the tenacity it takes to ride out what comes with an always changing industry. A lot has changed since that first photo but telling the story that people believe in with some damn good lighting has always stayed the same.
