Where to surf in Turks and Caicos
The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory consisting of the larger Caicos Islands and smaller Turks Islands, two groups of tropical islands in the Lucayan Archipelago of the Atlantic Ocean and northern West Indies. They are known primarily for tourism and as an offshore financial centre.
Sharing many Bahamian surf features the straight barrier reef is a long way offshore and horribly exposed to the N winds. However the passes offer the possibility of a bend and a safe boating/paddling channel. Northwest Point and Leeward Cut on Provo are offshore in E trades, while Mary’s and Clark’s Cut on North Caicos, plus the Lighthouse Reefs on Grand Turk get shralped. Learning to kiteboard on the calm, lagoon-like, near-shore waters makes far more sense, but equipment is hideously expensive to rent.
