Where to surf in Guadeloupe
Guadeloupe is the biggest land mass in the central Caribbean island chain and it's eastern extent Grande Terre benefits from a deeper offshore valley pointing towards the Atlantic NE swell source.
Basse Terre
Basse Terre is not as fortunate and NE swells will generally struggle to reach the north and west coasts, but a big due N or those rare W hurricane swells will hit some prime spots. Offshore islets hide some action so check Ilet a Fajou, Caret and Kahouanne, which has a long right and left off the SE tip. The west coast beaches around Deshaies usually look like a lake, otherwise they can be thumping shorepound plus the odd reef corner in a swell. Down on the south coast there’s some black sand beachbreak at Trois Rivieres and at Bananier, the most reliable beach. There’s more waves up towards Roseaux, but east-facing beaches are rarely clean. The Iles des Saintes and Marie Galante offer some real possibilities for the marine mobile.
