Where to surf in Dominica

The relatively unspoiled island nation of Dominica is still cloaked in rainforest and is the northernmost boundary of the Windward Islands. Cliffs make access tricky in places, but the 365 rivers cut valleys and build up black sand beaches, adding to the rocky reef inventory that dots the Atlantic coast. Check the mainly right reef of Calibishie up north, or the messy peaks of Pagua Bay beachie that has a few rivermouth paddling channels. Where the Rosalie river hits the coast can hold some shape providing the wind isn't too strong and there are many more potential waves down the east coast, but quality set-ups are few and far between. Scotts Head on the south coast can have waves in summer S swells and E wind is cross-off. The west coast is a very rare bird that gets a bit of swell in winter wrapping round to Portsmouth and a spot behind Ross University, or else it's destructive hurricane swells from the W.
