Where to surf in Congo (ROC)

Only Pointe-Noire and Pointe Indienne stick out from the monotonous, straight beaches of Congo. Piege à Sable has disappeared then returned as multiple harbour wall extensions build up the right sandbars for one of the country's best, yet transient waves.

The rest of the 170km shoreline of Congo is characterised by a succession of shaded bays and lagoons bordered by mangroves.

Surf Culture

History

In France, there has been quite a few good visiting surfers like Black African Jean-Luc Dupont or ex-WCT female Marie-Pierre Agraal who did their class in Pointe-Noire, the obvious sign that the surf is warm and plentiful. Surfing started in the early 80’s with russian-Congolese kids like Jannick Laforge, Ferdinand Yidika, Dimitri Mamouna or Edouard Serge and a small surf population has grown steadily since then, mostly bodyboarder kids and expat surfers.
