Where to surf in Bangladesh
Bangladesh must be the most obscure Bay of Bengal country to cradle some surf and has only recently been exposed as even having any rideable waves. Bangladesh surfing started with Jafar Alam in 1992 when he bought a board from a travelling Aussie and spent the next decade trying to ride it without wax at his local break, Cox's Bazar. As one of the longest beaches anywhere, it offers 120kms of wave action from ankle-high mush to headhigh closeout barrels and everything in-between. Quality is usually poor and it is at the very fringe of the novelty destination list. Middle of the SW monsoon (Jun-Aug) will bring the most rideable waves along with tonnes of rain and wind, so Sept-Oct is best, plus a cyclone swell is always on the cards during the off-season.
The rest of the country's coast is buried in a sea of silt from the Ganges Delta and the biggest waves are going to be found in the far SE at Teknaf, near the border with Myanmar or some shifty reef breaks that act like beaches on St Martins Island and Chera Deep.
